Develop creativity, confidence and self control as you work with
characters, stories and scripts. Children will learn basic acting and
improv skills in an encouraging atmosphere.
"Acting Up" lets the dramatic child explore the creativity of their
imagination in a focused environment. Using role-playing and
improvisation we will explore everyday situations and give them a
dramatic twist. Training in body and voice control as well as
characterization and musical theatre. Culminating in a performance of a
play written and directed by the students themselves.
An opportunity for younger children to discover their dramatic side,
grow in confidence, develop communication skills and the ability to
work in groups as they explore stories and drama techniques.
An
age appropriate introduction to the world of musical theatre for the
divas in your family. Training in voice production & projection as
well as movement, basic steps & stage presence with new &
traditional theater music.

Students and parents should plan on involvement in backstage preparation as performance time draws near. In Musical Theatre 1, special attention is given to middle school students at this very important time of development in their lives.
This class is a second class for serious musical theater students who would like individualized training in small groups with vocal & dramatic emphasis with more performance opportunities. Auditions are held in September. Classes begin in October. Scheduled so that students can take advantage of training in dance, drama, comedy and circus as well.
This department supports all our productions and students get many hands on opportunities to learn skills. All performers are also expected to participate in work times with the class in preparation for their particular shows.

Administration & Production Assistance – A limited number of work-study assistantships (for credit on classes) will be available for students wishing to learn about and take responsibility for aspects of our several productions throughout the year.
Technical Theatre
Ages 12 & Up Instruction in set design & construction, different elements of technical theatre including sound, lights, stage managing, props, costumes and more. Involvement in productions (TBA) is necessary for older students.
Tickle your
funny bone and sharpen your wit with our New Comedy Class. This class
will include training in Slapstick-Style Physical Comedy, Clowning, Short form
Improv and Sketch Comedy. So much fun and perfect for the performer who just
wants to “make 'em laugh.”
This class focuses in on developing the physicality of the actor, by
exploring and learning the techniques of classic and modern mime,
illusions, weight sharing, and physical comedy. Great for dancers who
want to improve their physical vocabulary for modern dance. Ever
wonder how it feels to scream in silence?
Friday's class will include some Beginning Dance.
Wednesday:
9:00 AM - 10:15 AM - Ages 9 & Up, Maryland Heights
Experience the process of film making: picking a script, casting,
producers, budget, behind the scenes work. All that it takes for
cameras to be able to roll. We will film our "movie" and also take a look at post production, editing,
and marketing.
A level 3 class for older students who can perform
certain skills and have taken at least 1 year of Circus Arts at DaySpring.
Inclusion in class must be approved by teacher.
